At least in the original english alphabet. I still agree with you that it is sill to spell out "Zed" rather than just type the character "Z". After all, you don't see many of us here in the USA typing out "Zee". I'd chalk it up to being some weird cultural thing, but it isn't like they type out "Ex" for "X" or "Ess" for "S", etc.
